Question Impatient - account advice needed

Hi.

I'm one of the many returning GW players from way back. I've decided to revisit GW after a years-long hiatus in light of the all the interesting information that's come out recently about GW2. Naturally, I've forgotten all my previous account information and currently have a ticket open with NCSoft to try and have it recovered.

Here's the problem, I've re-purchased the trilogy from Steam, have it installed and waiting to go, but waiting for a response from NCSoft is trying my patience and I really just want to get back into the game and start exploring it all again.

What I'd like to know is would it really be worthwhile to wait another week in order to access my original account (I only got through Prophesies and had three L20 characters at the time - Mes, Monk, Warrior), or should I say to hell with it and just begin a new account?

Right now I'm not even certain they will be able to find my old account information because everything since then has changed and I have only supplied them with what I *think* is accurate information. I certainly don't have the original activation code anymore because I've long since lost the game box and disks.

I'm planning on starting over from the beginning with new characters anyway since there's no way in hell I'm going to try to pick up those characters from where I left them with only the most tenuous recall of the game mechanics. So really, it's kind of a nostalgia thing and the fact that I'd like to preserve those character names. Are there any other reasons I should put off just jumping in with a new account immediately? Are there things I will miss if I don't wait to recover my existing one? Even if I start a new account, is there any way that my old one can ever be played again? Mind you, I now have a trilogy key which in includes Prophecies, plus the original key from back in 2005/06 which is currently lost in the ether.

Advice welcome.

Thanks.

If you've already activated your new account, you might as well play it while you're waiting for NCSoft. One reason is that you've already spent the cash on it, so not using it is just a waste of money. Another reason is that they may not be able to help you with your old account info.

Even if you haven't activated the account, you've already bought it. Go ahead and start that up. If you can get your old info back, great! You now have 2 accounts! You could use both just fine. If you can't get your old info back, then you just won't have those character names. You still have that shiny new account though, and since you were planning on starting over, the only thing you're really losing is character names. (Unless you really really wanted the items on your old account, but seeing as you most likely don't know whats on said account, you probably won't miss them.)

I guess I was just concerned I might have problems using the old account if I've created a new one with this new key. I'm not all that clear on how the whole activation thing works with NCSoft. But I think I'll just go ahead with the new one anyway and hope for the best. I might be waiting quite a while otherwise.

Thanks for the input.

You can have as many accounts as you want. Each account can only have one of each campaign on it. If you only have Prophecies on an account and purchase the Trilogy you can add it to the old account and it would just add anything that was not there - it would not overwrite your existing characters.

But if you've been gone that long, you might as well just keep the old account for storage and chasing Nicholas. You will be able to trade between accounts by using Guild Wars MultiLaunch http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/i...t10373154.html (this is allowed by ArenaNet as long as you aren't using it in PvP)

In case you aren't aware of it:
When you install the game client from DvD or from the network, you are installing it independently from any account information. You can login with any account on your machine. So it is absolutely possible to play now with your newly purchased account, and in case you recover your old account from ncsoft, you can log in with that as well without re-installing. Simply give the corresponding login information at the login prompt.

There is locally saved data: the build templates and hardware-specific things like screen resolution and sound settings.
Keyboard assignments or interface settings (configuration with F11/F12) are saved to your account on the Arenanet servers.

This is pretty much what I'd expect. It was the whole NCSoft-associating-keys-with-accounts thing that had me scratching my head. I've created the new account now though, so if the older one ever sees the light of day again, I'll give it a try.

Thanks again.
